Black Cat Run

DUMB PEOPLE DOING DUMB THINGS AGAIN
It's hard to believe that the man who wrote the screenplays for THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GREEN MILE penned this overblown action movie. Frank Darabont's screenplay focuses on one Johnny Dell Grissom, a handsome young race driver, who has been saving his winnings so he could go to college and make something of his life. His father is an ex-con who runs a gas station and he's in love with the daughter of the local redneck sheriff, who doesn't want his Sarah Jane to have anything to do with his youngun. Sarah Jane is also desired by the sheriff's even redder deputy, Norm. As the movie opens, however, we meet a bunch of really vile prisoners who murder their guards and escape. Lo and behold, they run into the sheriff, kill him right in front of his daughter's eyes, but who gets the blame? Johnny, of course. From hereon, it's a chase movie, with some exciting chase scenes, but nothing new. All the main characters do dumb things that even make their actions dumber. Johnny and...

A mystery film to collect
for people who like to collect films like this, I recommend it, is not bad or good, but its content is something that draws attention, to see it everywhere I had to buy it I do not regret any, for my taste of hundred mysterious is good, because it was very mysterious success on the big screen

Wonderful Action and Drama Film
If you like action as well as drama, you will love this film. I was amazed at the camera angles in the action scenes. This film was made for HBO, and so most films of this nature do not have the budget to do all the necessary action scenes to potential. However, this one did. The main character in the film is a race car driver. After a prison break, the felons along with the girlfriend of one of them, run for their lives.

I especially loved the fact that the girlfriend was not only pursued by her boyfriend, but also by one of the cops hunting the convicts. He has a great attraction for her, and if she would just be his, his life would be grand. This subplot joins all the other subplots to make a film you will enjoy, especially if you watch it at night.

I was impressed by the amount of explosions in this movie. There were not too many, just enough. This movie reminded me of James Bond films, with a touch of small town sheriffs and maybe some Bonnie and Clyde mixed in.

I know...

Louie Giglio - Fruitcake and Ice Cream (Passion Talk Series)

An Awesome DVD
This series of DVD/CD's put out by Passion and Louie Giglio re so awesome and just have a really great impact on those who see them. This is the newest in the series and shows how God can bring about great things with his grace even when we are not looking for it. Ashley, a University of Florida student tells us how God worked in her life with a new roomate and the friendship that evolved from this. Also includes a Cd with some really great and powerful songs.

Great DVD
On a whim I decided to watch this DVD, and was blown away by its message. As a recent college graduate, I have known people just like Ashley, and at one point in time, I was just like her. This dvd can help many people realize that no matter what God will always be there for you, and he is always working behind the scenes. This is a must see DVD for any highschool or college student or for youth group leaders!! Great job again Louie! (And as always the cd is a great compliment to the dvd).

I know Ashleys
I just watched this DVD this week and it was amazing! I know "Ashleys" out there and I am so glad that I got to hear this message! I am a junior in college now and last semester I befriended several people from some of my classes. We formed a study group where we met/still meet weekly and really got to know each other better. There were several parallels with my relationships and the one that "fruitcake" and Ashley have. It was a great reminder to have patience (in prayer and in service) with what God is doing in your relationships, especially when you don't see what the outcome will be yet (God is so much greater than the demension of time).

I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to be authentic about their faith.

Headhunters (With English Subtitles)

4.5 Stars... Excellent cat-and-mouse action thriller from Norway
Headhunters (2011 release from Norway; 100 min.) brings the tale of 5ft7 (not tall enough? just watch the movie!) Roger Brown, who is in the recruiting business (hence the movie's title), but in order to keep up his lavish life style and to continually impress his impossibly beautiful wife Diana, Roger has a side business of sorts: he, with the aide of a side kick, steals valuable art from people's homes, to sell it on the black market. All goes well until at some point Roger meets Dutch business man Clas Greve. Clas has an interesting background and might fit the profile for the CEO position that Roger's headhunting agency is trying to fill. On top of that, Clas' grandmother, who just passed away in Oslo, apparently has some extremely valuable art in her private collection...

The above is the basic premise of the movie, and to give away much more would flat-out ruin your viewing experience. Suffice it to say that not everything is what it seems to be. From the movie's...

Hollywood, DON'T TOUCH THIS ONE
Folks,
Hollywood remakes foreign movies for our convenience of eliminating the subtitle hassle, and out of arrogance. Eh, don't let them touch this one. THEY WILL RUIN IT TO ALL GLORY!!! It is just fine. I did the hard work of: stop, rewind, play, pause, etc. And, it was worth it!! I literally found myself trying to talk to the main character (the seedy guy making his buck) to hold it together and not get killed! This movie was smart, unpredictable at times, and just simplistically beautiful. I had lucked out through my search with this one. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS FILM!!! NO USUAL MOVIE CLICHES in this one!!! You will not do the 'yeah, yeah, yeah...'

Hollywood is slipping... There are foreign films out there like this one that are so much more memorable.

Americans, get off the straight a way highway were you zone out. Be a little more active, exert a little more mental energy, and WATCH MOVIES LIKE THIS ONE!!! It will be worth your night!!!

Norwegian Energizer Bunny
This one is a killer-diller! Wow! The person who recommended this one to me deserves a medal. Hodejegerne, an R-rated Norwegian crime thriller (English captions), is exciting, involving, unpredictable and intelligent. It has relatable characters, a wonderful plot and is beautifully acted. We in the audience left the theater happily talking to ourselves.

A skilled art thief hears of a priceless Rubens, stolen during WWII and kept in a private collection all these years. He realizes this could be the deal that puts him and his wife on easy street for the rest of their lives. Thus begins our story.

We see:
* Aksel Hennie ("Age of Heroes") is our pint-sized cat burglar, impeccably groomed, smart as a whip and always trying to improve his theft of high-end art. His day job is to find and interview applicants for new executive positions.

Warlords: The Generals

WARLORDS: THE GENERALS
My favourite documentary subject is "Military History". This is a must for anyone interested in Military History. My collection begins with the Greeks, Romans and the Dark ages through to Medieval British history. Including the Boar war, Vietnam, WW1, WW2, The English Civil war in 1600's with the killing of a reigning English king Charles 1st. The American Civil war in the 1800's,the earlier conflict when the US fought with the British 100 years before in the 1700's. Of course General Custer and the Red Indians etc etc on and on. I now have trouble with storage and must purchase another DVD holder. The only war docu. i do not have is Korea, the forgotten war. I watch the MASH series daily and that is hilarious.
Warlords: the Generals is a very informative inclusion to my collection of War History. It is worth getting if you are interested in military history. I love it.

Scarface [Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy] (Universal's 100th Anniversary)

Finally!
The reason to buy this DVD is simple: one of the most influential films of the 20th century has finally been released in a newly restored, pristine transfer. As an owner of the original DVD release, I can testify that the difference is like night and day.

With every viewing, I come to appreciate Brian DePalma's Scarface more and more. Although not perfect, there is much more right with this film than wrong. It helps to compare it with its countless imitations: where most subsequent crime films rush headlong from one bloody gunfight to the next, Scarface takes its time. Its languid, gliding camera has a certain elegance in the way it reveals story points without relying on clunky Dick-and-Jane dialog or overwrought MTV pyrotechnics. A prime example is the infamous scene where Tony Montana (Al Pacino) attemps to buy two kilos of cocaine from some Coloumbians for his boss, Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia). Watch the way the camera drifts from the Miami Beach hotel room, across a...

A Gritty, Underworld Masterpiece.
"Scarface" is one of the greatest of all mob movies. It's an epic crime drama done with style and care. Brian DePalma presents a film that ignites the screen with a great screenplay by Oliver Stone and an amazing performance by Al Pacino. Unlike "The Godfather," which was more about family and relationships between father and son, "Scarface" is an exhilarating and intriguing journey into Miami's mob underworld, seen through the eyes of Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee with some of the greatest lines in movie history. The degree of excess here is brilliantly done and adds even more realism to a great work. DePalma shows a wonderful touch of style in the sets, costumes, cars, even in the violence. Look at the brilliant eye for composition he shows in a scene where an assassination attempt is carried out on Tony in a nigh club. The movie is full of that Latin style and intensity. The screeenplay By Oliver Stone is brilliant because it's complex in...

On DVD, yet again...
Brian De Palma's blood soaked gangster epic is on DVD, once again. I'll say this right off the bat, if you own the previously released Special Edition of Scarface, there's no reason to run out and buy this Platinum Edition, which has an assortment of previously released extras to go along with a counter for how many times the "F" word is used and how many bullets are fired. Besides that, there's nothing here that hasn't been seen before, but if you don't already own Scarface on DVD, well then, this is worth picking up. As for the film itself, it's a bloody crime epic featuring one of Al Pacino's best, and most infamous, performances as Cuban hood turned drug kingpin Tony Montana; but chances are, you already know all that. The DVD's picture quality looks cleaner, and the "remastered and remixed" sound is crisper as well, but whether or not you want to lay down the cash for this depends on how many times you've been suckered into buying the movie.

Two Orphan Vampires: Remastered Edition

Gothic vamp film with a flair for the visual
This movie is quite different from the usual Jean Rollin film. There is practically no nudity or blood or softcore eroticism. It is tamer however it is visually more impressive than most of his other works. So those who prefer to watch Rollin films for purpose of atmosphere, elaborate sets and artistic value might find this to be one of his better efforts.

Two blind young women enter "Les Glycines", a religious orphanage in rural France. Apparently, the two lost their sight at a very early age and for no apparent reason. Assigned to the case is Dr. Dennary, an expert eye specialist who seeks to unravel some of the reasons for their condition. Little do the doctor and the nuns in the orphanage know that at night, the two girls can see just fine. At night is when the two girls turn into vampires and sneak out of their bedroom window to scour the orphanage's external surroundings for human blood. After a while, Dr. Dennary and the two orphans will relocate to Paris in an...

"Our chaos is mad poetry"
In many respects "Two Orphan Vampires" epitomizes the films of Jean Rollin. Its subject matter is Rollin's favorite: murderous but strangely vulnerable vampires. His protagonists are (as usual) two girls--possibly lesbian, certainly vampiric. Furthermore, the film's overall atmosphere, a disquieting blend of elegy and fairy tale, is typical of Rollin's work. Nevertheless, "Two Orphan Vampires" stands out as the great director's finest masterpiece--a poetic gem whose underlying theme is nothing less than the Imagination itself.

Though the film's predacious central characters, Henriette and Louise, are raised in a Catholic orphanage, thence removed to the Parisian mansion of their adoptive father--their actual home is within their own minds. Typically adolescent, the two girls share a secret fantasy world based largely on all the forbidden literature they can borrow or pilfer--fantastic picture books, penny dreadfuls, horrific chapbooks, etc. Absolutely Romantic, they...

a dreamlike fairy tale
This isn't just another horror movie. This film caught me in it's spell of strangeness and beauty. I can't really explain it.
It's childlike, dreamlike, and beautiful. You'll have to watch it for yourself to see what I mean. Best when watched with subtitles. I really loved this film.
